Breaking Open to More

Apr 01, 2024

“How strange that the nature of life is change, yet the nature of human beings is to resist change. And how ironic that the difficult times we fear might ruin us are the very ones that can break us open and help us blossom into who we were meant to be.” - Elizabeth Lesser

"Breaking"

The word alone can trigger a diverse range of feelings and bodily reactions.  In our journey through life, the concept of "breaking" holds deeply personal resonances, shaped by the tapestry of our individual experiences.  Numerous dimensions of breaking exist, and nestled within patterns of survival, there's a fundamental mechanism aimed at mending what has fractured. Given this survival framework, it prompts us to ponder what exactly is being sustained.

What is it that is being held together?

Our built-in survival mechanism makes us stick to what we know, because it equates it with safety, survival & the understanding, THAT IS HOW it knows we are surviving.  For example, "I know I'm alive as long as...."  this dynamic is playing out, I am suffering, sick, in pain, depleted, confused, feel like shit, etc. (fill in the blank).  So, when we try to create changes, even if it's for the better, our instinct might strongly resist it because it is directly linked to the subconscious understanding of survival.

Add in our fast-paced society, where the opportunity to truly process and receive support for our breakdowns is often dismissed as a flaw or shortcoming within us- and the usual tactic to "fix" these problems is by us, "keeping everything intact by holding it together."  However, taking time for reflection and introspection is VITAL for understanding which aspects of our lives are currently working and which are not.  It's a natural process within us all, where things fall apart only to be rebuilt in ways that truly align with our current stage in life's cycle. The chronic approach of prioritizing the status quo over genuine resolution is broken & been ineffective for far too long. This temporary fix has been placed/operating as a long term solution, eventually allowing the underlying issues to worsen, leading to a cycle where the outcomes are influenced by unresolved matters.  This process prompts us to examine the core and quality of what we're trying to preserve.

What exactly are we striving to hold together?

The underlying fear is that without constant effort to keep "IT" together... if "IT" breaks open, our lives will disintegrate into chaos. What we are familiar with will shatter, leading us into the unknown, and on a subconscious level, this equals death. This instinct to "hold it together" is deeply ingrained, a survival mechanism passed down from our ancestors and utilized in our own lives when necessary. Yet, this approach is not meant to be operating as a singular way to survive, as inherently, it is not sustainable.

The Unknown

This is the point at which the forces striving to emerge grant us the chance to reexamine, reconsider, and refine how our past experiences shape our self-perception.  Rather than allowing these experiences to solely dictate our understanding of ourselves & continuing to play out from a fractured state, we're presented with the opportunity to transform and reinterpret this energy in new ways, expressing it uniquely through our own being.  Within our fear of the unknown, the Essence of breaking is a multifaceted phenomenon, interwoven with our instinctual patterns of survival, where it breaks open into MORE, becoming a catalyst for healing what has been fractured. This opens the portals of creation from & through the boundless ways in which we exist.

Nature itself teaches us about the cycles of existence—through the water cycle, the dispersal of seeds by the wind, the ebb and flow of tides, and the changing seasons. There is a rhythm to everything, a cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. The breaking apart of the old paves the way for new seasons, rhythms, and life cycles to emerge in fresh expressions. This natural process of transformation and renewal is a powerful model for navigating our own lives, encouraging us to embrace change rather than resist it.

Beautifully, just as deeply as our survival systems run, so too is an intrinsic wisdom within, that is always guiding us towards towards ever-expanding expressions of our true selves.  This journey invites us, in reaching beyond our past experiences and current understandings. It's intertwined with the profound enigma of the vast unknown, yet remains intimately linked to the entirety of existence. It is a part of the deep mystery that encompasses the unknown and yet at the same time is directly connected to ALL that is.   Just as the seed breaking through it's shell, it releases the potential life inside, manifesting itself in a new way. The Essence of breaking, is breaking open to MORE.

This is the magic of moving beyond the past and its experiences while still embracing and incorporating its lessons. This profound inner wisdom exists within us all, and within every act of destruction, there's also creation happening. Your entire being expressed in countless forms, ways, and dimensions.

All my Love.
